It all begins with landscape
Ideas tend to come when I’m out walking; all the time, I’m noticing shapes and contrasts, atmosphere, layers and textures. Then back in the studio, I’ll start to play around with colour palettes, thumbnail sketches, notes, studies etc…until something grabs me that is worth developing.
I often begin with small intuitive paintings, which I use as jumping off points for later works.
Painting is a huge buzz and an enormous challenge; sometimes exciting and at other times frustrating, even scary!
My paintings are made slowly, building multiple layers and often scraping back and incising detail, before glazing over the top, to create a complex picture surface.
My work is in private and corporate collections across the UK and overseas.
I’ve also exhibited widely including with the following galleries:-
Mercer Gallery, Harrogate
Bils and Rye
Tarpey Gallery
Dean Clough
James May (USA)
La Galleria
Tubes Gallery
Northern Lights
Silson Contemporary
Kunsthuis
Great North Art Show
Huddersfield art Gallery
