29 Jan Westminster Abbey Banners
This was an exciting but technically challenging project to produce two banners for the dioceses of Bradford and Ripon and Leeds…The banners were for a major celebration and were processed through Westminster Abbey.
The work was made by students from schools in Harrogate, Leeds and Bradford, and they were all able to work together thanks to the support of St Aidan’s in Harrogate, who gave us a wonderful base! The designs were inspired by stained glass in the two Cathedrals; Bradford and Ripon, and they were transposed onto calico for painting.
Students worked on separate fragments, which were then painstakingly put together and blended to complete the final works. Both banners were double-sided, and special Banner hangers were made for us by the DT staff at St Aidan’s. The work was painted in high quality acrylics to give a very vivid and rich appearance, and also durability as it is hoped they will be used for many years to come.
