Visual Arts in Education: advice, support and more across all phases

Jo has been working as a freelance Arts Consultant since 2002, and has wide-ranging experience across all aspects of Art, Craft and Design Education, spanning primary, secondary, special and college sectors.

A great deal of Jo’s practice centres around developing extended partnerships with school networks and outside bodies and agencies. Jo also leads on Arts development for The Arts in Hart, a multi arts initiative to develop provision across approximately 50 schools in the Harrogate and Rural Teaching Alliance.

Recent work includes:
Pictures at an Exhibition-A cross-arts celebration event for North Yorkshire schools. Creative Industries Unmasked-A countywide conference for secondary schools highlighting the importance of the creative sector. A multi Arts celebration and performance event for more than 350 children at RHS Harlow Carr.

 Professional Services

  • Tailor made CPD/Training Sessions for schools and school networks.

    All training session are fun and ‘hands on’ and fully grounded in up to date curriculum requirements, day to day realities of the classroom and the needs and circumstances of the individual setting.

    Jo’s expertise lies very much in building confidence as well as subject specific skills, knowledge and expertise.

    Training sessions for teams of up to 10 people take place in Jo’s purpose built Art studio/workshop…a comfortable environment away from the distractions of school, with very easy access and plenty of free off-street parking. Whole day sessions include refreshments and a quality buffet lunch.

    Training for larger groups takes place in school.

  • Advice, Support and Guidance across all aspects of the Art, Craft and Design curriculum, including:

    Targeted support for Primary School subject leaders and Secondary School Heads of Department- Advice and Support visits can be used to conduct teaching and learning reviews and to audit Art, Craft and Design Provision. They can look at the role of the subject leader in depth, offering support on key aspects such as; curriculum design and development, breadth and balance of curriculum, progression, creativity, choice of equipment and materials, and assessment.

  • Extended whole school projects and artist residences working with young people and the extended school community.
